Pensacola, located in Escambia County, is the westernmost city in the panhandle of Florida. It is home to the military and aerospace National Naval Aviation Museum, giving it the nickname "The Cradle of Naval Aviation." The United States Navy's flight demonstration, Blue Angels, has its home base in Pensacola.

In Pensacola you will find many professional athletic teams such as the professional hockey team, Pensacola Ice Flyers, and the minor league baseball team, Blue Wahoos.

History & Activities

Pensacola was founded in 1559 by the Spanish explorer, Tristan de Luna y Arellano, making it America's first official settlement. It was overtaken by the French in 1719 but was later regained by the United States in 1862 during the Civil War.

What is there not to do in Pensacola? If you like adventure and nature you would be right at home in the Pensacola Bay where you can canoe and camp along the pristine wetlands and creeks. Visit the National Naval Aviation Museum to learn the rich history of naval aviation or watch the flight demonstration squadron, The Blue Angels. Pensacola is home to a wide range of professional and minor league teams such as the Pensacola Ice Flyers and the Blue Wahoos. Go to the annual Great Gulf coast Arts Festival the first weekend of November to hear live musicians and see a unique diversity of painters, sculptors and jewelers.
