How Does Homeowners Insurance What Kind Of Home You Buy?

"Location, Location, Location," or you could also say, "Elevation, Elevation, Elevation." You've all heard the saying. When it comes to homeowners insurance, elevation of location is one of the main factors when determining what the price range will be monthly for homeowners insurance.

Here are a few quick questions to ask yourself planning for homeowners insurance :

1. What is the flood elevation of the property you are purchasing?

There are 3 different types of flood zones along the Emerald Coast of Florida - Zone X, Zone A and Flood Zone AE. Flood Zone X is not always required by banks and can sometimes be the least costly because it is related to higher property elevations.

2. What type of roof does the home have?

The most desirable roof is called a hip roof, which is slanted towards the ground on all sides. Gable and other roofs are not always as desired by insurance companies.

3. Is the home hurricane ready?

Are there hurricane shutters on the windows? What type of nails were used in the building? All of these factor into how ready the house is to withstand against bad weather or uncontrollable circumstances we sometimes find along the Florida Coastline.

These are just a few things that go into homeowners insurance and determining what that will look like on a yearly basis. We always recommend having great insurance, especially in our area! :)
