Orange Beach, AL

Nestled between Gulf Shores and Perdido Key in Florida is the coastal, resort community of Orange Beach, Alabama. The city is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico to the south and stretches along surrounding waterways including Wolf Bay and Bayou St. Johns.

History / Activities

The Orange Beach area was first settled in the mid-1860s and was close to vast forestland, thus cultivating businesses in turpentine and naval stores production. The name “Orange Beach” derives from the orange groves planted in the area after the forestlands were depleted. The orange groves & citrus industry lasted for a few decades until several hard freezes ended the industry in the late 1920s.

Orange Beach is known as a water sports hub and can be seen as you drive over the Perdido Pass. If not a water sport enthusiast, Orange Beach has plenty of other activities for you to enjoy. You can take the Alabama Coastal Connection to visit the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach or to go shopping and enjoy a concert at The Wharf. Drive along Perdido Beach Blvd and stay at one of the various resorts and condominiums or visit any number of restaurants along the Gulf of Mexico.
