East of Pensacola, you will find a community that has been referred to as “Florida’s best kept secret.” Its twelve miles of shoreline leaves plenty to do whether you live or vacation in the area such as jogging, kite boarding, surfing, fishing or snorkeling. Its beaches are considered some of the least crowded on the Emerald Coast. Navarre is located in Santa Rosa County and in the Northwest region of the panhandle of Florida.

History & Activities

Navarre was founded by a colonel in the United States Army, Guy Wyman, and given its name after the providence Navarre in Spain. Its military background still thrives today because of its location near the Naval Air Station to the west and to the east Hurlburt Field and Eglin Air Force Base.

Some of Navarre Beach may look familiar to you from the 1978 film Jaws 2. The Navarre Beach Holiday Inn was used to film the hotel scenes in the movie.

In the area you will enjoy the Intercostal Waterway Sound and a portion of the Pensacola Bay. On Navarre Beach you will find many restaurants and things to do, such as fishing on the pier, which is the largest on the Gulf of Mexico.

A Place To Call Home

Navarre is considered to be newly developed compared to surrounding cities. Most of the homes here are newer and affordable. One of the largest subdivisions in all of Northwest Florida is located in Navarre. Holly by the Sea was established in 1972 and has near five thousand property owners associated with the subdivision.

Many of the residents of Navarre travel on average around thirty miles to cities like Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach to work and attend school.

If you are looking for a much desired beach community to live within, Navarre is for you. Its location makes it a great place to find quiet and serenity, but also a place that is close enough to major cities to always give you the option of more things to do.
