Hurlburt Field

Hurlburt Field is a United States installation location on the Emerald Coast. Located in Okaloosa County just west of Mary Esther is this field that is home to the Air Force Special Operations and many active military families.

History & Activities

Hurlburt Field was once a training field for Eglin Air Force Base until the 1950’s when they separated. Hurlburt Field was given its name after First Lieutenant Donald W. Hurlburt. Lieutenant Hurlburt was killed on a local mission at Eglin Air Force Base when the aircraft he was piloting crashed.

The Base provides a home away from home atmosphere for those who are stationed there. You can go to eat at the many restaurants it provides, go shopping, read at the library or go bowling at Hurlburt Lanes. There are other outdoor activities available to the residents such as paintball or the skeet range.

It is located about thirty-five miles from Pensacola and just a short distance from Mary Esther and other cities. The base is located in the beautiful panhandle of Florida and has the option of many sugar-white beaches around.
